I know that preparing for a photo session can be stressful... whether it's figuring out the perfect day, the perfect time, worrying about the weather, and so on. If you've booked a session with me, just let me just take over all the worrying! The only part that I DO need your help with is getting dressed. I can't quite do that for you :)
So here are my 3 biggest tips (with examples of my past clients who nailed it)!
1) Wear something that you feel GOOD in (both physically and mentally)!
The last thing you want to do is wear something that makes you feel self-conscious, uncomfortable, or anything that just isn't "you." When you feel confident, that radiates! Find something that allows you to interact with your family as you usually do. For instance... if you have toddlers, make sure you wear something that allows you to run, sit, crouch, etc!
2) Start with one family member's outfit and go from there.
It can be really overwhelming if you have 3, 4, 5, or more people to get dressed! That's why I suggest starting with one person. If mom has a pretty dress with a large floral pattern (that she loves and feels amazing in!), start with that and try to tie in some of those colors. Or - pick 2 colors that go well and pull in different shades of those colors. It looks best if you coordinate but aren't too matchy-matchy.* Try to avoid large logos, characters, or graphics that might be overly distracting.
*The exception to this rule is with kids. If kids have cute matching outfits, that is a-okay with me!!
3) Think about your outfits as a reflection of you and your partner or family.
Are you outdoorsy and casual? Then it might not make sense to dress up in suits and fancy dresses. Are you more confident when you're dressed up and have full hair and makeup? Then by all means, get dolled up!! The goal is to let your personalities shine and minimize other distractions (i.e. a shirt with a giant Doc McStuffins face) that take away from YOU! There's that saying about how you should "look like you" on your wedding day... well the same goes for any other day you're having photos taken.
Bottom line... there is no need to overthink it! If I do my job right, your outfits will not be what people notice. Everyone will see YOU!!
When you book with me, I'm here for you every step of the way. So if you have a session coming up and are struggling with this, please let me know and I will take that stress off your shoulders!
